2008 Season

The first races of the year are now under our belt, so far so good. A brief summary below, click on the link for the race for detailed results.

2008 Wednesday Night Racing

5/21 - Series I, Race 1 - A third-place overall, finishing behind The Cone of Silence and Scheherazade in a wind-shift filled night.

5/28 - Series I, Race 2 - A port tack start where we crossed the fleet sent us towards the better breeze and while we were fourth across the line we were close enough to correct on all the faster boats for a first-place.

6/4 - Series I, Race 3 - Another excellent Wednesday Night race, we went out, nailed the start and sailed the boat very fast all night long (thanks to the excellent 100% attention of Kyrre to the Genoa trim), in what was usually 5-6 knots of true. We were able to use our reacher spinnaker almost like a Code 0, which allowed us to stay close to Shout and Scheherazade who were in front of us, and keep The Cone of Silence and Agora far enough behind us for the first-place finish. No problems with the sail handling, as Steve and Karen kept the crew work on the hoists and douses perfect.

6/11 - Series I, Race 4 - Steve's first race on the helm, we had an excellent start, sailed into the big lefty by the pin and tacked over to starboard, 40 boat lengths ahead of the fleet. Our decision to sail underneath the schooner out for a tour on the harbor cost us, however, when they tacked right on top of us. This slowed us down enough that The Cone ended up beating us by 4.4 seconds. That gave us a second-place finish for the night

6/18 - Series I, Race 5 - Just after we crossed the finish line behind only Vanish, the race was abandoned because and LNG tanker was due to come out the channel. Darn!

2008 Weekend Regattas

5/24 - Memorial Day Regatta - After missing first overall last year by 18 seconds, Superstition did not disappoint in 2008, with a second and first place finish on the two races to lock up a first-place finish for the day.

6/1 - Lambert Ocean Race - We were first across the finish line, and ended up in second-place after time allowances to Sirocco, a J33 skippered by Ward Blodgett, who sailed a great race.

6/8 - Summerset Regatta - A bit of an off day for us, we struggled with speed and wind shifts, and in the end had a second and a third in the two races, giving us a second-place finish for the day.

6/14 - Constitution Yacht Club Spring Regatta - A fun day of sailing in the outer harbor, while we ad the boat going very well, The Cone of Silence was just too fast for us, and we ended up with second place in both of the races, giving us a second-place finish for the day.

6/15 - Hospice of the North Shore Regatta - A really great race for us, not only did we end up with a convincing first-place finish for the day, but we were selected to represent Marblehead in the National Hospice Regatta next May in Annapolis, which is a pretty big deal for us.

6/21 - Patton Bowl - Even with an over early in the first race, we were able to stay focused and come back to score a bullet in each of the two race, giving us a first-place finish for the day.
