Chapman Bowl Friday, July 11, 2008 Corinthian Yacht Club
This is our one "overnight" race of the season. It counts towards the MBSA Season Championship, with your points multiplied by 1.25. We will be starting out by The Graves outside of Boston Harbor on Friday Evening around 7:00 PM, and will then sail one of several possible courses (depending upon conditions) which range in length from 50 to 125 nautical miles. The goal will be for a Saturday afternoon finish off of Marblehead.

Everyone should be at Lewis Wharf ready to leave the dock at 5 PM. The race will finish in Marblehead, and it is possible that at the finish I will immediately turn the boat towards Boston to put her away before heading up to Marblehead for the party at the Corinthian. Or maybe not, depends on the timing and conditions and the such. More details to follow...

Unlike a traditional short race where there are fixed positions, we will be breaking the six crew on for the race up into three teams. We will all be on deck to start the race, but by 10 PM the first two crew will be off for two hours (trying to get a power nap), then the next two will be off from midnight until 2 AM, then the next two from 2 AM until 4 AM, and so on. The teams are as follows:

Team A -
Tim O'Dea/Karen Stelle
Team B -
Jim Murphy/Maureen Boyle
Team Z - Chris Zibailo/Kathryn Carlson

There will be plenty of water, coffee and beer (for AFTER the race) on the boat, bring any sort of snack you may want for yourself. Remember, this is planned to be a 14-18 HOUR race, not a 4-8 DAY race, so don't buy everything at BJ's Wholesale club! There are a couple of pillows and sleeping bags on the boat already, so no need to bring a bedroll.

I will send more details out after the skipper's meeting, which is Thursday night at the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club...

Crocker Cup Saturday, July 19, 2008 Manchester Yacht Club

Sponsored by the Manchester Yacht Club and the Manchester Harbor Boat Club, this is the first of four "pursuit" races we will be competing in this year, although I believe this is more of a distance race. The course is a triangular windward-leeward course of 20-30 miles using Gales Ledge buoy, Eastern Point whistle and Newcombs Ledge whistle as marks of the course. After the race there is a party at Manchester Yacht Club. Info will be posted on this race after June 1 at http://www.sscrockerrace.com.

The start time for Class B may be as early as 10:15 AM, so be at the Manchester Yacht Club at 9:00 AM ready to go.

Sadly, this is one of those events with no after-regatta party, as the awards are incorporated into the Mass Bay awards dinner in November. But that doesn't mean we can't have a cold beverage or two at the sail loft when it is all over!

Q

Wednesday's Child Regatta Monday, Sept. 1, 2008 Boston Yacht Club
This is a pursuit race (and a Mass Bay Pursuit Race qualifier), with two divisions, racing (spinnaker) and cruising (JAM). Take a wild guess which division we are in! The first warning signal is at 11:55 AM with the first (slowest) boat starting at noon. Last year the course was just six miles, so Superstition started at 12:23:06, and finished less than and hour later. This year we are hoping for a longer course.

So, everyone please meet that the Boston at 10:30 AM. We will bring the boat up from Boston, leaving Lewis Wharf at 7:30 AM. Chowder and hot dogs will be served at the Yacht Club when we get back in, and the grill will be open as well.

Jubilee Regatta Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 Jubilee Yacht Club

At least two races scheduled, with a VERY EARLY 10:00 AM start for the first race. The boat will leave Boston at 5:30 AM, and should be at the Jubilee at 9:00 AM. Be ready and on the dock, as it is likely I will do a touch and go to pick up all crew members.

There is always a great party afterwards with free food and drink. This is a BIG RACE as it is a qualifier for Mass Bay, Salem and Marblehead Championships, so as someone once said "Go big or go home!!!"

The roster for the day is...

Driver - Steve Spangler
Main Trimmer -
Becca Reger (tentative)
Jib Trimmer -
Kathryn Carlson
Pit -
Chris Zibailo

Chowder Cup Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 Hingham Bay PHRF

Two races scheduled, with a rendezvous time at Hospital Shoal of 11AM. So the plan is for everyone to meet at Lewis Wharf around 9:30 AM, so we can be off the dock at 9:45 AM heading out to the harbor islands. The racing usually takes place in the area of Rainsford Island, the RC will lead us to the area they will be using that day.

The race is sponsored by the Wessagussett Yacht Club of North Weymouth. They are down on the south shore, not too far from the Hungham Yacht Club. The plan after the race is to head back to the dock at Lewis Wharf, I would expect us back there by 4 PM at the very latest. Then, anyone who wants to attend the awards ceremony at WYC is welcome to drive on down.

We will head out towards the starting area, do a little tuning, and go out and win some races!

We should be done with racing and back tot he dock by mid-afternoon. There is usually a nice get-together at the MYC and then the awards are done around 5 PM. As long as we DON'T get protested again this week, the boat will probably head back to Boston around 4 PM.
